From Shanghai to Manchester

In 1960, Wing Lau — having fled Shanghai during the Cultural Revolution — opened a small Chinese restaurant in Liverpool. It was a place built on the food of his homeland: honest, generous, and rooted in tradition.

He soon moved to Manchester, settling into a basement on Cross Street that would become one of the city's most enduring dining institutions. No gimmicks, no trends — just good food, huge portions, and a family that believes in doing things properly. 64 years later, we're still here.
